A local man was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle last night in a critical condition after suffering a head injury.

The 40 year old man fell from his bicycle onto the tracks five metres north of the old railway station.
Glen Innes Fire and Rescue Service Commander Matt Goldman said they attended the scene to offer assistance to local ambulance officers.
“We attended to assist the Ambulance service lift the patient off the tracks,” he said
“It was quickly identified that the patient was not wearing a helmet and ambulance officers treated him at the scene before he was taken to the local hospital.”
Glen Innes Ambulance station officer John Adams confirmed they attended the scene and stabilised the patient.
“Three paramedics attended the scene and helped stabilise the patient,” he said.
“We then transferred him to the Glen Innes hospital where he received further treatment.
“Later on that evening the patient was airlifted by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service to the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.”
UPDATE: 3.30 PM A spokeswoman for the John Hunter Hospital said the man's condition has improved and he is now in a stable condition
