Batsmen from both teams were licking their lips in anticipation of a boundary spree on the fast out field at Emmaville and both teams had a red hot go at it.
Emmaville won the toss and elected to bat hoping to exhaust the Tavern fielders in the hot conditions.
Runs came quickly for Emmaville before their first wicket fell with the score at 20.
Glen Innes Cricket Association President Nigel Sharman said although Emmaville scored quickly, they frequently lost wickets.
“A steady fall of wickets followed after their first wicket partnership until Jack Symons and Tyler Johnson steadied the ship with a 70 run partnership,” he said.
“Emmaville looked good and on their way to a big score when Symons was caught in the outfield and Emmaville were 5-116 in the 17th over.
They then put an extra 26 runs on the score sheet before being bowled out for 142 runs in the 24th over.”
The top scorers for Emmaville were Jack Symons with 41 runs which included four Fours and one six and Tyler Johnson who scored 30 runs and also looked good.
The pick of the bowlers for Tavern were Nigel Sharman who picked up three for 28, Steve Reynolds three for 30 and Brandon Levy two for 18.
Taverns took to the crease and with the temperature in the early 30’s, were in for a hot run chase.
A couple of quick boundaries from Tavern opener Brandon Levy had Tavern looking like they would make the runs easily.
However, nerves set in for the Tavern batsmen with a win in sight and a steady flow of wickets fell which had them on their toes.
Sharman said a strong batting performance from Brandon Levy helped the Tavern steady as they were five for 87 in the 12th over.
“Tavern was able to hold out and score the winning runs in the 19th over, with a loss of 7 wickets,” he said.
“Brandon Levy was the best batsmen for Tavern; he kept his wicket intact for the whole innings.
“He hit the winning runs with a personal top score of 88 not out that included 12 Fours and three sixes and Dustin Pocock helped out with 13 runs.
Best Bowlers for Emmaville were Jack Symons who took four for 35 off 5 overs and Luke Hodgson who chipped in with two for 41.
