The aim of the grants program is to ensure a quality experience for all club cricketers by building of new training and playing facilities, or the upgrade of existing infrastructure.
Glen Innes Cricket Club President Nigel Sharman said the association would use the grant for work on all the ovals that host cricket games in town.
“We need to replace the wickets on the ovals, the synthetic grass needs to be repaired due to wear and tear and vandalism,” he said.
“We’d prefer to upgrade to turf wickets but due to the time it takes to maintain them synthetic grass will be what we go for.
“This would not have been possible without the assistance of the council who helped us all the way with this and they are also going to lay the synthetic pitches for us which we appreciate.”
Glen Innes Severn Council General Manager Hein Basson congratulated the cricket association on receiving the grant.
“We are happy to assist wherever possible and feasible and this is a great result,” he said.
Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall said he commended Cricket NSW for their initiative to support grass roots sport.
Country Cricket NSW Development Officer Shawn Mepham said that the grants can only do positive things for local cricket.
“I think the grants are a great thing, they give a good opportunity for clubs to get things done, especially clubs that may struggle a bit financially,” he said.
