Mr Powell enjoys the versatility of ceramics and the appropriately built mud brick studio will showcase a range of works from wheel thrown functional domestic ware to larger hand built sculptural forms.
The work reflects the relationship between art and nature living in the country, especially here in the Northern Tablelands where Mr Powell finds the basic forces of nature and the seasonal change add a structure and richness to how we live and a source of inspiration when creating his ceramic works.
“I have been involved in developing a palette of ceramic glazes that reflect the natural surfaces and textures found in nature and the exhibition includes some large simple organic shapes and large platters that highlight these finishes,” he said.
The Studio exhibition at 48 Caerleon Road Glen Innes is open on the weekend of December 5 and 6 from 10am – 4 pm daily.
