Member for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall attended the Deepwater Races earlier this month and cut the ribbon to officially open the wheelchair accessible amenities block.
Mr Marshall said the Deepwater Jockey Club have been working hard over the last few years to improve the infrastructure at their racecourse.
“I inspected the existing amenities block on my last visit to the racecourse and they were certainly in need of an upgrade and I was pleased the club was going to extend them to include facilities for people with disabilities,” he said.
“Deepwater really comes alive on race day; it’s one of the best race meetings in the district, with visitors coming from far and wide to enjoy the day so it’s pleasing to know they can now accommodate people in wheelchairs.”
Deepwater Jockey Club President Doug Stevenson said they were very pleased to receive the grant and appreciated the support they had received from Mr Marshall.
“We are very keen to keep making improvements at the racecourse and this project has been on our to-do list for a while,” he said.
“It’s the first year in a while that these toilets will be open for the public to use on race day and It’s a very welcome upgrade.”
Mr Marshall said it was always gratifying to be able to assist small country clubs maintain and upgrade their facilities.
“So many small community groups work hard to maintain their infrastructure and I’m always pleased when the State Government can step in and offer that leg up to make sure it happens,” he said.
