GLEN Innes children went back to school last week, some tackled the first week with enthusiasm, some less so, but all made sure their pencil cases were stocked and their lunch boxes full.

The Glen Innes Examiner looked on last week as local kids were being dropped off at the front gate of schools, some for the first time, and it was hard to tell in some instances who was the more emotional, mum, dad or child.
Uniforms were being checked, shirts tucked in, new haircuts were being put back into place by proud parents, all before the first bell of the year rang out.
As children head back to school local police are reminding motorists that they have to be extra careful in school zones.
There are 40km/h school speed zones in existence around all schools in NSW. School zones are operational between 8 - 9.30am and 2.30 - 4pm on school days.
Police will be targeting school zones to ensure motorists obey the 40km/h speed limit.
