Ms Collister grew up on the Isle of Man and left its shores in 1983 to begin a diverse and rich musical career and first came to British national attention in 1987, singing the theme tune for the BBC Television series, “The Life and Loves of a She Devil”.
Following a fruitful association with The Richard Thompson Band, Christine enjoyed a period of critical and commercial success in a seven-year partnership with Clive Gregson.
Collister has recorded 20 albums in her career encompassing solo, duo and group work.
“I love doing collaborations, doing harmony singing is a lot of fun, and doing it in shows about interesting subjects, like death and dying or money, I like to present thought provoking shows,” she said.
“People coming along to the Celtic festival will get the best of what I have, a wide range of songs from throughout my career interspersed with some interesting cover versions of well-known songs.”
When given the chance to represent the Isle of Man at the Australian Celtic Festival, Ms Collister grabbed it with both hands.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore my musical roots and to delve into the history and folklore of the Island in ways I haven’t before. I’m particularly excited about presenting a workshop to young children, sharing a little history and telling fairy-tales and perhaps teaching them a Manx Gaelic song,” she said.
“The Festival has also given me the chance to premiere a wonderful documentary – Island Bound -- which was commissioned for the Island of Culture in 2014, created and presented by a great friend and fabulous Manx musician, Davy Knowles.”
Ms Collister is most excited to be doing shows with legendary Australian guitarist Michel Fix.
“I am enjoying working closely with Michael Fix, we have already done a handful of shows leading up to Glen Innes and we’ll be performing together on Saturday evening,” she said.
“I trust him, he is so solid and that allows me to just concentrate on singing which in turn makes a better show.
“He is a wonderful Australian guitarist and I’m thrilled that we’ll be touring Australia together again early next year.”
