September 10 and Glen Innes Severn Council has arranged for Local Government NSW to facilitate the two councillor candidate briefing workshops.
Local Government NSW’s Learning Solutions presenter, Narayan Van der Graaf, will facilitate the workshops and said they will include a discussion segment with participants.
“Councillors can play a key role in making decisions that influence both the short-term concerns and the long-term strategic direction of their local communities,” he said.
“It is a big commitment, and prospective councillors need to know what will be expected of them.”
Key elements of the workshops include discovering how the councillor role fits in with the Local Government Integrated Planning and Reporting framework, challenges of the role and how to meet them, the rules of debate and meeting procedures.
Council’s Director of Corporate and Community Services Anna Watt said the free workshops should help prospective councillors understand the challenges of local government.
“The workshops will enable prospective councillors to gain an understanding of the role and responsibilities of being an elected member of the community,’ she said.
“If anyone has any enquires and to register attendance, I can be contacted on 6730 2317 by close of business on Tuesday July 12.”
