The firsts played attacking and daring football and were not daunted by the TAS side and their reputation.
The Highlanders stuck to their game plan throughout the match and may have won the game if more promising attacking moves came off.
Coach Jason Reed said his team showed what they can do when they have their full list to choose from.
“We finally had our full complement of players and had our chances to beat top runners TAS but we had to settle with a hard earned draw,” he said.
“Mick Maroney was player’s player scoring our only goal in the best match we have played all year.
“Nigel Sharman is finding his feet in goals and an improved mid field strengthened by Brent Pedlow has seen the Highlanders turn into a real threat of taking out the title this year.”
The second division team also played well and showed glimpses of what they can do when they are switched on.
Reed said the team stared strongly and looked good for good portions of the match.
“The seconds started strongly with Dylan Ferris scoring early after many attacking raids but TAS equalled the score just on half time,” he said.
“Highlanders started strongly again in the second half with Liam Muckenschnabel scoring and a strong back line shutting down TAS’s attacks led by players player Robert Ferris and we were looking good until we had our striker sent off the field due to a scuffle with a TAS player.
“Once the seconds were down to 10 players it was always going to be a tough assignment and two crucial mistakes in our own goal area saw TAS score two easy goals to steal the win, all in all it was a good team effort apart from poor discipline by some and two easy goals from mistakes.”
The final score in the second division was TAS defeated The Highlanders four – two.
The third division side fought out a two all draw with the Demon Knights.
