The infant’s school was participating in the NSW Premier's Primary School Sport Challenge and the Kings Gym owner offered to help out free of charge.
The Premier's Primary School Sport Challenge involves primary school classes participating in a 10 week sport and physical activity challenge.
A class may accumulate time spent in a broad range of sports and recreational pursuits during lunchtime, in school sport programs, class time, after school or in weekend physical activity.
Schools or individual class teachers can adopt a variety of strategies to help engage students in the challenge and that is where Mr King stepped in to offer his expert knowledge.
“I contacted the school to support them in with their Premiers Sporting Challenge by offering to run a free Kids Fit session for all students,” Mr King said.
“The students participated in relays, obstacle courses, group and individual games and students spent the entire session engaged, active and excited.
“I also offered to support all staff participating in the Premiers Staff Challenge by providing them with a free Gym Class and they will be participating in a session that works on cardio, weights and overall fitness.”
Just like students, staff members completing the 10 week Challenge will receive a Diamond, Gold, Silver or Bronze certificate issued by the Premier of New South Wales.
Year one teacher Melissa Ward said it was a pleasure to have Nigel in their school for the day.
“The children were engaged the entire session and have learnt some valuable skills,” she said.
“Nigel has a real talent for working with children to increase their fitness and coordination.”
School learning support officer Michelle McPhillips said it was great to have a local business volunteer their time.
'It was great to have Nigel volunteer his time to support our students as part of the Premiers Sporting Challenge,” she said.
“The kids really enjoyed the 'snap shot' of what is offered for children at Kings Gym.”
