The weather gods decided to turn on a superb day that was perfect for attacking rugby.
Club spokesman Jim Ritchie said both the Elkettes and the Elks played entertaining football.
“The day commenced with a win to the mighty Elkettes squad of 17 nil over the Barbettes with two tries to Katie Fakes and one to Fiona Williamson,” he said.
“After a short break the Elkettes then took to the field again against a very determined Barbettes, unfortunately losing this game 17 - 14.
“The Elkettes were putting a lot of pressure on the Barbettes in the dying seconds of the game but unfortunately the Barbettes were able to hold off for the win.”
Tries went to Brea Grange and Fiona Williamson.
Mr Ritchie said the Elkettes have had a hugely successful year.
“They have only lost two games all season and that is a great result,” he said.
In the first grade game, the Elks took the field against a strong Barbarians side.
Mr Ritchie said the Elks took it right up to the Barbarians.
“The first half saw a very tight game played mainly in the centre of the field until the BaaBaa's made a breakthrough in the 10th and 22nd minutes for converted tries, taking the half time score to 14 nil,” he said.
“In the second half the Elks responded with arguably one of the best performances as a team I have seen in a long time and the half belonged to the Elks.
“They attacked the BaaBaa's with gusto and in the 10th minute they were held up over the line although following the scrum Nick Lehman crossed out wide to put the Elks on the board.”
In the 17th minute the BaaBaa's hit back with a converted try against the run of play.
Mr Ritchie said at the midway point of the second half the Elks continued to apply pressure to the BaaBaa's.
“Nick Say ended up being held up over the line, although a minute later Nick crossed the line and with Cam Amos slotting the conversion the score was now 21 – 12,” he said
“The Elks continued to apply pressure and were very unfortunate not to cross the line on a number of occasions and particularly in the last five minutes of the game you could hear the BaaBaa's asking the Ref if it was nearly full time.
“Again, congratulations to all the players in the Elks squad for always putting in a great effort for the full 80 minutes.”
Mr Ritchie said the club congratulated Paul Hermanns on his game on Saturday.
“At 52 years of age, Paul has been playing Rugby for 40 years, which is a great effort.”
