A posse of more than 200 riders will parade their Harley Davidson's through the town and make their way to the standing stones to complete a local thunder run.

The bikers will enjoy a Christmas in July function at the Glen Innes and District services club on Saturday night and then enjoy breakfast the next morning before they take part in the ride. 

Services Club event coordinator Julie Clement said the riders will come from all over Australia and spread the word about Glen Innes far and wide.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Glen Innes to shine within the bike enthusiast community as they are always looking for great rides and great scenery,” she said.

“A Thunder Run means loud not fast, I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea and think bikies are taking over Glen Innes with wild riding, these people are tradies, doctors and lawyers who love Harley’s.”

Mrs Clement said The bike riders will assemble in the services club rear car park for the thunder run at approximately 9.30 am on Sunday then they will venture down Grey Street and then up to the Australian Standing Stones for photos.

“It would be good for the town to come out and line the streets and say hello to the riders, it should be good to see so many sparkling Harley’s in town,” she said.

“Just think, more than 200 Harley riders from all over Australia putting pictures of Glen Innes on Facebook and YouTube that has to be good for the town.”

Thunder run organiser Jill Stonnell said they are looking forward to coming to Glen Innes

“We are so excited; we have riders from the Sunshine Coast, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Ballina, Coffs Harbour, Tamworth and Moree all participating in the weekend,” she said.

“Glen Innes is a decent days riding from Brisbane and the temperature up the top of range will set the scene for a winter ride.

“There was plenty of accommodation available and the services club was big enough to cater for what we wanted to do, we all just love to ride and our club mantra is ride and have fun, which is what we will do.”
