The Highlanders ran in nine goals to zero in an ominous sign for their possible finals opponents
Club president Rob Ferris said the Highlanders came to play and scored early in the game.
“We got on top of the Demon Knights early and we never looked back from there,” he said.
“We played very tightly in defence and our forward movements were nearly all successful.
“The Demon Knights did not field their best side but neither did we with half the team being made up of second division players backing up after their game.”
Mr Ferris said if the Highlanders can field their best team they will be formidable opponents in the finals.
“We really do need to have our full strength team playing in the finals to give us the best chance at it,” he said.
“We did have some stand out performances on the day from Mick Maroney who celebrated his 30th birthday with five goals.
“Dango Ferris scored a hat trick and Dan Leabeater got one, our young star Andrew Blackwell got player’s player and Konnor Ferris and Liam Muckenschnabel stepped up from the seconds and played great football in first division.”
Mr Ferris sustained three broken toes due to the uneven playing surface at Wilson Park which added to the frustrating effort of the second division team in their game.
“We lost one-nil with a frustrating effort on the field, we had all the possession and plenty of shots at goal but we were unable to find the back of the net,” he said.
“DK never looked like scoring until that injury caused our backs to scramble in defence and DK’s only shot at goal went in.
“George Muckenschnabel was player’s player with good support from Mal Donnelly in the middle.”
The fourths won a tight contest 4-3 with Monte Jehne receiving player’s player and Brendon Weiss, James Tait, Lachlan Macansh andTom Mitchell playing well all scoring a goals.
This Saturday all three grades play TAS at Armidale.
