Association Secretary/Treasurer Tricia Stack said she recently uncovered an article about the Deepwater Railway Station Conservation Management Plan.
“The article was prepared for the NSW State Rail Authority and it talks about provision being made made within the formal village boundaries (Alice St to the north, the Northern line to the east, Lachlan St to the south and Frazer St to the West) for a Courthouse and Police Station and new school building and a Methodist Church,” she said.
“The article talks of the influence of railway communication upon land values and says that by 1891 the population of the village had risen to 362.
“I also found that a paper called the Deepwater Miner had commenced publication, a Progress Committee had been formed, a School of Arts had been built, a Court of Petty Session had been proclaimed, and a Cricket Club had also been started up in the village, which is all fascinating and leads me to believe that we are in our 125th year.”
Moving into 2016 Mrs Stack said the new office bearers for the Association will all carry on from last year.
“The office bearers are President Brett Bishop, Vice President Kirsty Klinar and myself as Secretary and Treasurer,” she said.
“Kirsty Klinar is on the CWA Hall subcommittee whilst Brett Bishop and David Spinks are also on the beautification of Deepwater subcommittee.”
Mrs Stack said the association will continue to lease the CWA Hall from CWA NSW so that the Pre School can stay open in the Village.
“This is about the third year of doing so,” she said.
“There are 13 children attending the Pre School this term.
“The Beautification is a 10 year plan with council now at year four of the drafted plan, the plan is dealing with the Apex Park and the installation of new BBQ.”
