Both the senior and junior Glen Innes Highlanders have had a good season filled with wins.
As the senior soccer team prepares for the finals, the junior club is preparing itself for its final representative carnival of the season.
Junior club spokesman Chris Wilson said there is exceptional talent throughout all junior teams this season.
“As each season progresses the committee can see the talent strengthen and we hope to have extra children nominate for Saturday soccer and carnivals for the 2017 season,” he said
“The juniors final carnival for the 2016 season is this Sunday with 12 representative teams travelling to Tenterfield to participate in their annual carnival.
“The seven years team one coached by Paul Knox is hoping to coming away from Tenterfield undefeated which if successful will mean it is the only junior representative team to go undefeated in all carnivals this season.”
Mr Wilson said the committee would like to thank the coaches and parents and children for their commitment this season.
The Senior first division team had an easy week, after North Armidale forfeited to them.
Club president Rob Ferris said the week off will allow players who have niggling injuries to come back next week fresh and ready to play.
But the second division Highlanders have had a stumble before the finals.
Highlanders played North Armidale in second division on the weekend and lost in a close encounter.
Mr Ferris said the Highlanders started the game well but lost the game by making errors.
“A simple mistake in our backline saw Norths score an easy goal, early in the game,” he said.
“We fought back and went into the half time break at two all, with Harley Parker scoring both goals.
“He showed a bit of form up front and players player Garry Crawford had plenty of work to do in the back line, all our young guys played well but unfortunately the lack of players turning up to training really showed in the second half with Norths stealing the win three – two at the the final whistle.”
