The Glen Innes Severn council recently decided to charge a fee of $7.70 per head of cattle at the quarry weighbridge.
Councillor Malcolm Schumacher raised the issue as a matter of urgent business a move that was backed by Cr Andrew Parsons
“We will now await the report from the saleyard committee which is due on September 1 and then the new council will review the decision based on that report,” he said.
Cr Parsons said that he thought the issue was hastily decided upon at the last meeting.
“I did not have any support for looking into this issue further at the last council meeting, but it is good to know that that it is getting looked into now,” he said.
In other matters the three councillors that will not be seeking re-election made heartfelt speeches reflecting on the last four years.
Cr James Graham said the last four years have been a “great” success.
“We have overcome some massive hurdles and being a councillor has been an eye opener for sure,” he said.
“Some of the big decisions we had to make I have been told by previous councillors are amongst the hardest ever made, but we pushed through it and the town should move forward in leaps and bounds.”
“I have thoroughly enjoyed it and I will be back I just need this term to pursue some business interests.”
Cr Graeme Quinn said he thought the last term went well.
“This council was faced with a lot of difficult decisions that will set the community up well into the future,” he said.
“I am proud of my term on council and I am proud of what we achieved.”
Cr Mick Scherf said this term of council has achieved a lot.“I believe it has been a very good term we have got this council to be fit for the future which was a tremendous battle,” he said.
