Mr Marshall said Glen Innes fuel retailer Ralph Panebianco’s fears were unfounded, as it is mandated by legislation that all service stations must display their retail bowser fuel price in real time on the FuelCheck website.

“His concerns do not reflect the intent or the reality of FuelCheck,” Mr Marshall said.

“FuelCheck will greatly advantage those Independent service stations that are typically selling fuel a cheaper price than the big multi-nationals. It puts the real time price information in one spot so motorists can check quickly and easily and always buy fuel from the cheapest servo.

“By putting information directly in the hands of consumers, the FuelCheck app should effectively make collusion by the big multi nationals impossible in the future. Information is power and motorists now have more than ever with this initiative.

“It is an offence for any service station to sell fuel at a price different from that advertised on the FuelCheck website or its station price boards and there are serious consequences, in addition to the obvious reputation of damage and loss of business.”
