Four athletes represented St Joseph’s School at the Armidale Athletics Carnival which saw them compete against children from the Armidale, Bathurst, Broken Bay, Lismore, Maitland/Newcastle and Wilcannia/Forbes Dioceses.
Adam Campbell threw a record breaking discus throw of 37.94m which saw him break the current record by 95cm.
Campbell also came third in the Senior Shot put with a throw of 8.80m
St Joseph’s School Principal Maria Mowle said Campbell’s efforts on the day were “incredible”
Adam put in an incredible effort on the day as I know he was rather ill with the flu,” she said.
Mrs Mowle said she was proud of the results from all four of the school’s athletes that competed at the event.
“Mollie Cave finished with a medal after she came third in the 11 years 800m race ,she also placed fifth in her 200 m heat,” she said.
“Angus Cameron competed in Junior High Jump and jumped 1.15m which is a great result for his first time at Polding and Makaylah Doust came sixth in the Senior 800m.
“Mollie and Adam will now represent us at PSSA Athletics Carnival in Homebush on the 19th and 20th October and this Carnival includes all schools in NSW.”
Mrs Mowle said she is confident the young athletes will do well at the carnival.
“Mollie competed in the 800m Junior Girls this time last year at Polding and finished seventh so she has shown a great improvement to finish in the top three this year,” she said.
“Adam’s best throw at Polding in 2015 was 27.24m that gained him first place and a trip to State where he threw 27.45m, which placed him 16th.
“His throw this year was a fantastic achievement considering he had increased on his throw from 2015 at State by a massive 10.49m.”
