THE Glen Innes contingent of the Australian Roller hockey squad has excelled at the recent Trans-Tasman tournament with several local players playing key roles in Aussie victories.

Australia sent six national teams to the tournament an Under 16s, Under 21s, Senior men’s, Ladies, Master men’s (over 35) and Veteran men’s (over 45).
Each team played three games against the best players in New Zealand.
Australia won five of the six divisions at the tournament.
The Australian Ladies open team won 3 games to nil, with Kyah Heagney scoring the first two goals of the first match.
Heagney ended up with a tally of five goals for the series.
The Australian Vets won 2-1, with Glen Innes’ Ken Bradley names best keeper and local lad Errol Heagney names best player after scoring ten goals.
The only victory for the Kiwis was in the masters division where they won 3-0.
The Australian U16's won 2-1, the U21's won 3-0 and the seniors won 2-1.
Glen Innes Northsports roller hockey spokeswoman Kristyl Pocock said the local contribution to Australian roller hockey was something to be proud of.
On the 28th of this month, a team of Glen Innes players are going to compete in the champion’s cup in Brisbane so we are contributing to representative teams and we are being successful,” she said.
“The players are dedicated with their training and their determination has led to great achievements for the entire Northsports club.”
Ms Pocock said the all Glen Innes reprentatives played well but singled out youngster Kyah Heagney for special praise.
“The Trans-Tasman tournament gave us individual success for several members and we feel that Kyah Heagney has a bright future within the sport and we hope she continues to play on a national and world level,” she said
“We also hope that she can make the world roller sports championships being held in China towards the end of next year.”
Miss Heagney said she is proud of her achievements.
“I like playing sports and being part of the teams,” she said.
“I’ve been skating since I was two and I have been training for a long time and I really wanted to make the Australian team.
“My goals are to keep playing and get better and to one day represent Australia at the Roller Hockey World Titles.”
Kyah’s parents, Julie and Errol said they were very proud of Kyah.
“She’s trained hard and it is a great achievement getting into the Australian Roller Hockey team, it’s been one of her goals and it’s great she's made it,” they said.
