Glen Innes Police Sergeant Duane Macpherson said the incident shows “poor form” and could have had wider implications.
“We believe the incident was not related to the job we were attending in Macquarie Street,’ he said.
“We were making inquiries into an unrelated matter and then when we exited the bowling club in Macquarie Street we found two tyres slashed.
“This could have had major implication because if we were called to an urgent job that would have caused us all sorts of problems.
“If anyone has any information they should contact the local office or crime-stoppers.”
Police are also concerned with the number of thefts from motor vehicles that have occurred recently.
Sergeant Macpherson said people should lock their vehicles and not keep any valuables inside in plain sight of thieves.
