The group arrived in Glen Innes to a warm welcome from locals and a night of entertainment, fun and frivolity was had in their honour.
Stopping off in Glen Innes on their way to Sydney from Brisbane, the cyclists will ride 1200 kilometres in six days to raise money for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation and the Children’s Health Foundation.
Following a 220 kilometres ride from Warwick with stops at Dalveen Park, Ballandean Pub, Wallangarra Border and Mount Bolivia on the fourth day of their ride the 1200kms for Kids bike riders will arrive in Glen Innes for an official team dinner and Glen Innes equipment cheque donation presentation at New Tattersalls Hotel.
With the money raised for the Humpty Dumpty Foundation, the 1200kms for Kids bike riders presented Glen Innes Hospital’s Clinical Midwifery Educator Sarah Whyte with an equipment cheque donation for a Radical-7 Pulse Oximeter valued at $4,440 for the Maternity Ward.
This oximeter shines a light through the baby’s finger or toe and measures the amount of oxygen in their capillaries. This ensures correct and safe oxygen delivery during highly critical times in an effort to prevent damage to organs such as the brain, eyes and lungs.
1200km’s for kids founder Trevelyan Bale said it is always a pleasure to donate to the Glen Innes District Hospital Maternity Department.
“Last year at the Glen Innes hospital a nurse came up to me and introduced me to a child that was able to be treated in Glen due to a piece of equipment we donated,” he said.
“She told me that if it wasn’t for the equipment we had donated he would have to have gone to Tamworth, but due to what we donated he and others like him, can now be treated here and his parents don’t have to travel.
“In a nutshell that is why we do this ride, and it’s good for the riders to see the good that they do, we love Glen Innes and we always look forward to coming here and offering our support.”
