Hamish was one of 12 Year 8 students from The Armidale School who took part in an annual Christian service project at St Christopher’s Orphanage in Suva, Fiji.
“At the orphanage we worked in the boarding house and did things like re-tiling, painting, cleaning and gardening. We had buddy time every afternoon and had fun playing touch footy and bullrush,” Hamish said.
The trip was the 14th visit made by TAS students to St Christopher’s, where a special bond has been developed.
Hamish said the maintenance work taught him so much more than how to use a paintbrush or lay tiles on a floor.
“I learnt to be a lot more grateful for everything I receive, and to always appreciate everything that anyone has done for me,” he said.
“It also showed me how important it is to always have a positive attitude.”
