Goldwind Australia is the owner of the White Rock Wind Farm.

This building is now used for storage and also contains specialised custom built textile housing modules which may have been damaged due to the roof leaking.

Glen Innes and District Historical Society Museum Manager Eve Chappell said it is an important building for the museum and the community.

“The building holds whatever is not on display of our textile items so it is all very valuable to the historical society and the community,” she said.

“We have been collecting the history of the community and now here comes the White Rock Wind Farm, the most modern energy to come to the area and they have stepped up and very generously helped us.

“Through this donation, they are keeping the history turning, so it’s a nice synergy.”

Goldwind Australia local representative Sandra Royal said they donated the money because they knew fundraising efforts had “hit a wall” and the restoration may not have been completed.

“We consulted with the historical society and found out how much money they needed to complete the project and the White Rock Wind Farm feels very privileged to play a part in helping finish off the restoration,” she said.

“It is important for Goldwind to donate this money because the history house is very dear to the town’s heart and it is a mandate of the wind farm to be engaged with the community.

“People think sponsorship is just about sport but it is not, it is about being selective and helping everyone in the community where we can.”

Mrs Royal said Goldwind would look to work with the History House on other projects in the future.

“If we are in a position to help then we will,” she said.

President of the Historical Society Malcolm Wehr said they are very grateful to White Rock for assisting with the restoration.

“The restoration needed to be done because once the old roof started to leak it threatened to damage our valuable collection of costume and fabric,” he said.

“The history house has to be run like a business and we need an extraordinary amount of money to run that business.

“We are very appreciative of the donation from White Rock because we ran into an obstacle or two during the project and it ended up costing us more than we originally thought, so we are very grateful to Goldwind for topping our funds up.”
