Australia’s biggest wind turbine blades have arrived in Australia and are destined for the White Rock Wind Farm near Glen Innes.
The shipment has eight complete Goldwind 2.5 MW wind turbine generators which are the biggest wind turbine blades to arrive in Australia to date.
The blades and other turbine components will be stored temporarily at Newcastle Port and then transported more than 500km by road to White Rock Wind Farm by a specialist logistics company.
There will be 700 oversize loads of turbine components delivered from Newcastle, via the New England Highway to White Rock Wind Farm.
It is planned to commence transportation in late November and continue into 2017.
This is great news for Glen Innes as it shows the White Rock Wind farm is on track.
Real Estate agents report they are getting more sales and rental inquiries from workers moving to town, the local gym has had to purchase more equipment for their gym because the wind farm workers have increased their workout regimes and of course the community engagement strategy of Goldwind sees it donating funds to a number of worthy clubs, organisations and individuals in town.
When the wind farm was first talked about there were a lot of negatives, now it is plain to see, although some of those concerns were valid, the positives of our area being a renewable energy hub outweigh them considerably.
Another positive recent development is the news from Business in Glen (BIG) that they are in negotiations to lease the Railway building.
If BIG are successful then this will restore a much-loved local landmark that has been the target of vandals into a useful building for the community.
Jim Ritchie, Kylie Hawkins and the BIG crew deserve to be congratulated for actually having a go rather than just lament the building’s demise.
The Examiner acknowledges there are things in town to complain about, the ever increasing amount of potholes on our roads is one, but we also acknowledge that the town has many things to be positive about and it would be good to hear more about them in general conversation.
