Five teams nominated for this season, which began on October 15. They are Railway Tavern, NEC Colts, Club Hotel, Emmaville and Kings Gym and Fitness.
Games will be 40 over innings with a full round of 20-20 games leading up to Christmas, with finals to be played and completed by mid March.
Elected last month, the new committee consists of Nigel Sharman (president), Dean Swaffer (vice-president), Ben Burbidge (treasurer) and Greg Wilkins as secretary.
Across the pitches and Gwydir forfeited the first representative game scheduled to be held on October 9 at King George Oval, so Glen will now progress to the next round of the country plate competition.
Meanwhile, a strong batting display from the Kings Gym top order has resulted in them easily chasing the total set by the New England Club Colts in last Saturday’s clash at Lynch Oval.
The Colts batted first and were in trouble early after openers Dean Swaffer and Steve Johnston lost their wickets cheaply.
Glen Innes Cricket association spokesman Mark Jacobs said the Colts were always going to struggle to compile a good score when they lost good batsmen for low scores.
“Butterworth and Purvis are very good batsmen in the Colts team and they both got ducks,” he said.
“It was always going to be difficult for them to make a winning score when some of the best in the team don’t score.
“The only bright spot on the day for the Colts was the batting of Ian Slapp who scored a very good 57.”
Mr Jacobs said the Kings bowling performance was consistent across the team with no stand out bowlers.
“They just bowled well as a team with each bowler sticking to a well executed plan," he said.
“The Colts set a very gettable target of 173 runs and the Kings did not seem to panic in their innings.
“The Colts did not help themselves by dropping a few catches in the field as well.”
Mr Jacobs said the Kings ran down the total with four wickets in hand eventually winning with a total of six for 179 after some excellent batting.
“Toby Shannon batted beautifully and he looked very comfortable in the middle,” he said.
“Brendan Jillett’s 38 not out was also a really valuable innings, he played some aggressive shots and looked in command the whole time he was out in the middle.”
Jacobs said that Jillett batting at number six was a good tactic and one that will stand the Kings in good stead for the rest of the season.
Next week the Kings Gym team play Railway Tavern at King George Oval.
