The plaque is based on an ancient Athenian marble inscription which praises the valour of those that died defending democracy and our mutually shared values, it reads:
“Doing battle besides the Hellespont these men lost their shining youth. They brought honour to their homeland, so that the enemy groaned as it carried off the harvest of war and for themselves they set up a deathless memorial of their courage”
The sub-branch donated this plaque as a permanent loan to be displayed alongside the WWII Honour Roll within the Emmaville Mining Museum. It was presented to the Mining Museum’s Mr B Johnson and Mr R Jillett who were honoured to receive and hold the plaque in trust for the people of Emmaville.
