The $400 million, 175-megawatt White Rock Wind Farm will be Australia’s largest and initially have 70, 2.5-megawatt turbines, but planning approval has been granted for 119 turbines. 

Other turbine components will start to be delivered over the coming weeks as construction for the wind farm continues at a great rate of knots.

Goldwind Australia, owners of the White Rock Wind Farm anticipate that for each turbine to be built, 10 oversize loads and 2 normal loads will be required.

As over 800 loads of turbine components will be required to construct the first stage of the wind farm, the transportation of loads will be ongoing into 2017. 

The public can view the first turbine blades arriving at a ‘Turbine Blade Viewing Event’​  at the Glen Innes Showgrounds on Monday December 5 from 12 to 2 pm.

White Rock Wind Farm local representative Sandra Royal encouraged locals to take this opportunity to get a closer look at a turbine blade travelling through town.

“The opportunity to view one of the blades on Monday has been organised so the community can come and celebrate with us because this is a momentous occasion in the construction of the wind farm,” she said.

“The public will be able to get a look at the size of the blades as well as have the opportunity to ask questions about the haulage.”

Mrs Royal said locals with residences directly on the haulage route bypass of Glen Innes should have received a letter in the mail informing them of the anticipated commencement date for the start of haulage. 

“As part of our community engagement strategy we want to make sure locals are fully informed of all that is happening during the construction of the wind farm,” she said.

“If you haven’t received a letter yet then come into the local office or call me and we will get one to you, or come and say hello on Monday.”
