My wife and I came here nearly two years ago from Brisbane and almost instantly settled into the wonderful lifestyle this town and region offers.
Sitting on our front porch, drinking a coffee we noticed the quiet and said to each other at the same time, “I could get used to this!”
We did.
I have loved every minute of being your journalist, reporting on the things that matter to you.
I want to thank those of you that have worked with me to make the Examiner a better paper. The Examiner is important to me and I do care about it. Having an avenue to read about local news is crucial to a town’s fabric and I hope the Examiner continues its proud tradition for the next 100 or more years.
From the wind farm to the helipad, from the water to the potholes, local, state and national politics and everything in between I feel honoured to have been given the opportunity by Fairfax to bring the news to the good people of Glen Innes and I do appreciate all the kind words from people who have come into the office or stopped me on the street since the news of my leaving has surfaced.
I won’t forget you or this town.
Glen Innes and its people have had a big impact on me and I will carry the Highland experience with me for the rest of my career.
Sure, Glen Innes is not perfect, but name me a town or a place that is.
This town and region have so many good things of which locals should embrace.
The wind farm is now in full swing and with two more slated for construction, the renewable energy future of the region should provide jobs for locals well into the next decade.
The new council has set an agenda and seems to be listening to locals concerns, I will be keenly watching their progress from afar.
Local schools bat above their weight in academic and sporting achievements and if the town can find a way to keep some of those talented young people in the region the future looks bright.
Goodbye Glen Innes, thank you from the bottom of my heart, I will miss you and cherish you, what a great town you are.
