In this technology-obsessed world, it would seem many of us could want for nothing more than peace at Christmas.
The years seem to fall into the past more and more quickly, and Christmas provides a time to stop and savour the great moments and grieve for those that really hurt.
It’s your life, and if you do not own every moment that was yours in 2016 and every year, you have lost something.
For many Christmas is all about families and children, giving and sharing, looking back on the year and focusing on that universal force which propels us all – love.
The greatest gift of Christmas is not what’s wrapped up under the tree. It’s having our loved ones together wrapped up in each other.
Also pause to consider those around our community, and the world, who aren’t as fortunate as yourself.
Those that are sick, lonely or whose Christmases have been touched by tragedy.
Think of the millions in other parts of the globe who have to watch their children go without food and clean water.
Better still, forgo a few presents yourself and send money to a worthy charity organisation.
Never forget how lucky you are to live in this amazingly connected part of the world.
For those of the Christian faith, Christmas Day is a day to celebrate that single life that has transformed the world and continues to change lives every day.
It is a greater peace that is the spiritual message of Christmas, the promise of hope, comfort and everlasting life that came with the birth of Jesus Christ.
While we all love getting presents and should be thankful for them, let’s also count our blessings this Christmas for all the other good things we have in our lives.
This is the final edition of the Glen Innes Examiner for 2016. While our website will keep up-to-date with any news happening in our area, the next edition of the Examiner will be available on Thursday, January 12.
Until then, most of our staff will be taking a well-earned break.
To our readers, advertisers and contributors, thanks for helping make 2016 a great one for the Examiner.
A merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year, to all.
