Riders turn out

Glen Innes Pony Club’s annual camp was a huge success with 52 riders and their horses saddling up for the event. Local members were joined by riders from Gunnedah, Moree and Boggabri to learn about different disciplines and compete for ribbons and trophies.

Chief Instructor Jacqui Cave said it was successful event with plenty of activities enjoyed among the riders.

"We also had a little troop drill competition this year which every single child participated in and it was a huge success, the kids absolutely loved it,” she said.

“All the kids were put into two troops and they had to do a little performance in front of our life member judges on Friday afternoon. Children as young as three were participating in that, up to 16 year olds. 

"We had a fantastic week, the feedback from instructors and the kids, we had a very successful camp and now we have a team of 20 heading to jamboree in Tenterfield this weekend.

“We had off the horse activities there most days. One off the horse activity we did do was a combat course and the instructors and parents versed the kids. It was absolutely hilarious. It was a huge success.”

Grand champion rider was Luke Kiehne, grand champion hack was Shae Partridge's Cherry, Shannon Williamson won his great grandmother’s shield in the senior cutout and the PD Newbury campdraft trophy, Sam Donnelly won his great grandparents’ junior draft shield and Logan Biddle won the junior cutout.
