The trainer won a third straight Glen Innes Cup on Saturday, a race he provided the trifecta for and completed a treble for the day at the once-a-year meeting.
Cunningham made an immediate impact when Super Cooper ($8.00) prevailed in the opener and the smart Duchilli oozed class in taking out a Benchmark 70 Handicap (1000m), both ridden by Terry Treichel.
“I bought Duchilli at a tried sale in Sydney, he used to be trained by Anthony Cummings,” he said.
“The horse has a few issues, but he's got ability and did a good job to win.”
Mark down Tamworth trainer Luke Morgan’s Better Future as a horse worth following. Sent out a $2.40 favourite, Better Future handled the step up in class and trip to stroll home by 1 ½ lengths in a Class 2 Plate (1400m).
Darren Jones enjoyed an armchair ride on Better Future, who completed a winning double for the hoop after earlier teaming up with Moree’s Peter Sinclair to take out a 1200m Benchmark 55 Handicap through Smart Option ($2.90fav).
Inverell trainers Bill Perrett and Theresa Lennon also enjoyed success on the Cup day program. Arlis ($17) broke his maiden status and Azzalin ($12) landed the 10th victory of his career when rattling home. On Sunday, Guyra trainer Paul Grills won a double in Scone.
