The Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School student started his cricket career in year three when he moved to the Hunter Valley.
Gibson returned to the region when he was in year six and continued playing.
The all-rounder is now a regular in Tamworth representative sides and most recently played in the Walter Taylor Shield in Armidale.
You've just got to try and perform at your highest and make sure people are seeing what you're doing.
- James Gibson
"We played five games. We played two 50 over games against Lismore and Ballina,” Gibson said.
"We lost the first two only by three runs or so and then we played three Twenty20 games.
"We ended up winning all three of them pretty easily so it was good to get a few wins for the end of the carnival.”
Gibson said he is eager to keep playing in the local representative sides and even higher, should the opportunity present itself.
"I've been playing cricket since about year three and I've had a bit of involvement in it but it will be good to get to the next level,” he said
"You've just got to try and perform at your highest and make sure people are seeing what you're doing.
"If you're selected in rep teams or carnivals, make sure you're playing at your highest because there's always selectors there for the Australian squad and NSW teams, Northern Inland and all that type of stuff.
"Making sure you're giving it your best shot and playing to your full potential."
Gibson heads back to school early next month when he will suit up for its junior representative side.
