Currently studying a Bachelor of Teaching (mathematics) at the University of Newcastle, Melanie was thrilled to receive the honour.
Melanie said she had done a lot of travelling in the past few years and has come to appreciate her home town more.
Her wish to be more involved with the show will now see her take more responsibility as an ambassador fr the town.
Rachel Kiehne, a year 12 student at Glen Innes High School, has taken the crown of junior showgirl this year.
Rachel also hoped to be more involved with the show and the community.
She now has that opportunity and is keen to take on the duties the title holds.
“The Showgirl competition was a great success this year with an excellent group of motivated and successful young women,” Showgirl co-ordinator Laura Hollingworth said.
“The entrants for the Junior Showgirl competition were Hope McIntyre, Monique Duddy and Rachel Kiehne.
“Rachel Kiehne was the winner of this comp.
“The Showgirl competition entrants were Steph Grob, Melanie Landers and Brianna Short.
“Melanie Landers was named the 2017 Glen Innes Showgirl, and will represent our show society this coming Saturday at the Zone 4 The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl competition in Walgett.
“As the Showgirl co-ordinator, I and the Glen Innes Show Socety wish her all the best.
“The judging weekend was held the weekend prior to the show with judges John Coulton Warialda based former ASC president, Libbi Thompson current RNA youth committee director, and local community stalwart and showground trust committee member Mike Condon.
“Guest speakers included Emma Walmsley, Tamara Ferguson and Adi Richie.
“Robyn McDougall, India Chapman-Burgess, Yvonne Gorman and Mary Hollingworth all volunteered their time over the weekend to assist the competition.
“All entrants were actively involved in the Show over the weekend and helped the committee throughout the weekend.
“They are to be commended on their exceptional conduct and contribution to the show and their community,” Ms Hollingworth said.
