“Lambs were judged this year on skin value, eveness of pen, presentation and fat depth, which are all traits that a meat processor is looking for,” Sales Representative Kurt Parker said. 

“The judge for this year’s show was Andrew Jackson from Thomas Foods International.

“This year’s entrants consisted mainly of heavy lambs due to a favourable season.”

Onlookers were interested in the quality of lambs on offer this year, and Mr Jackson was equally appreciate of what was presented, making mention of the impressive standard of each pen.

“Champion Pen of prime Lambs for 2017 went to Peter and Julie Donnelly at 49.2kg average, purchased by Newberry TeVelde Carige Agencies.

“Reserve Champion went to Chris Pettit at 45.8kg average, purchased by Campbells Butchery. 

“The Export lamb champion pen went to Brian and Nerolie Winter at 55kg average purchased  by Thomas Foods International.  

“The judge’s commendation award went to Kevin and Gina Feakins for their “outstanding carcass yield”  through the Thomas Foods International Tamworth Plant,” he said.

Results from the Auction conducted by Steve Daley, Elders Glen Innes, are top price of $272 for 70kg lambs with an average price of $180.60.
