More New England drivers were detected speeding over the Anzac weekend than last year, senior police said.

As Operation Go Slow came to an end on Tuesday night, 248 fines were issued for drivers exeeding the speed limit, compared to 212 last year.
The five-day police blitz also saw 13 people charged with drink-driving offences, nine of those were medium range and the majority were women.
There were 15 fines issued for seat belt offences across the Oxley, Barwon and New England police commands and 148 fines were issued for other offences.
Highway patrol Peel Cluster Senior Sergeant Brett Davies said there were “simple errors” costing people money and demerit points.
“There are people doing it and not knowing they are doing it – and this makes them dangerous,” he said.
“There are also people who are intentionally breaking the law and they are dangerous to other people because they are choosing to do it and not taking anyone else into account.”
