General Manager, Hein Basson, is assured the high level of engagement and positive feedback from participating youth, during the week means Council is on track to building functional networks within our community. 

“The Community Touch Football Team thoroughly enjoyed the game with the Glen Innes High School Year 10 students.  It was a novel and effective way for community members, Councillors and Council staff to interact with our youth,” Mr Basson said. 

Council’s Youth Worker, Kristy Newbury, said 102 tickets were issued to the Chapel Theatre’s presentation of “The Edge of Seventeen” movie. 

“The movie choice resonated with its audience.  Some of the feedback I got described it as a reflection of their lives, and a great movie to help build their self-esteem,” Mrs Newbury said. 

“The High School welcomed us into a well organised afternoon for Touch Football. Year 10 students were polite, engaging and had boundless enthusiasm.”

The Live @ The Library event gave the 108 young participants a chance to perform their music in a safe venue with quality sound equipment provided for them to experience. 

“Key messages from young people on the night saw the event as breaking down barriers while providing “good, easy, youth friendly food,” she said.

Director of Corporate and Community Services, Anna Watt, thanks the many community groups and businesses who supported this year’s events.

“The success of Council’s annual Youth Week is due to the willingness of our community to donate their time and engage with young people,” Mrs Watt said.
