Surrounded by the standing stones, the couple continued their tradition at the Glen Innes Celtic Festival –marrying in traditional Irish dress.

“What I love about Jason is how peaceful he is, he doesn’t really get angry and he grounds me because I can be a bit emotional sometimes,” the newly married Caitlin Nicholson said.

“His sense of humour as well, he always knows how to cheer me up.” 

As strangers and loved ones watched on, the pair’s hands were entwined in rope, a Celtic tradition known commonly as ‘tying the knot’.

“Caitlin, she’s just playful, she’s fun to be around, there’s always something new with her,” Mr Nicholson said.

“She’s just impulsive, she balances me because I can be quite serious and she brings out my fun side.”

Welcomed into the Nicholson Clan, the rings were presented on a sword owned by Glen Innes resident Peter Martin – who said he has been polishing it for months.

“It was passed down through the family,” Mr Martin said.

As for the future, Mr Nicholson said a stranger had provided some sound advice.

“A man who has celebrated his 50^th wedding anniversary, his wife has since passed away, he said the one secret is a kiss in the morning, a kiss at night and always remember – ‘Yes dear’,” he said.
