While not all of the large volunteer crew that drive, deliver Meals on Wheels or help out at the Day Centre could be present on the day, each will receive a certificate officially acknowledging their contributions.
Deputy mayor Carol Sparks was also on hand to thank those who contribute their time to Life Choices, calling volunteers one of the most important parts of the community.
“Their work is invaluable,” she said.
“We need to be encouraging more.”
Corporate and Community Services director Anna Watt said the efforts of volunteers help the community in ways that are not always easy to see.
“Volunteers chat with consumers while delivering meals or taking them to medical appointments. These conversations can highlight changes in someone’s wellbeing that may otherwise go unnoticed,” she said.
“The social support that comes from these regular interactions with volunteers is priceless and it enables council to provide a wider range of services.”
