Garek Fysch and Glen Innes’s Donau Rhein Verein (German/Austrian Club) are putting together a slice of Middle European Christmas in the middle of Grey St for the Chill N Glen festival, featuring themed eateries among a wide variety of stalls offering items following the make it, grow it, bake it philosophy.
The street will be blocked off and the town square transformed into a restaurant area. Hopefully it will be chilly, to take advantage of having each chair draped in a European blanket which is wrapped warmly over the diner’s lap.
Quota will be dishing up hot Belgian waffles, the Masonic Club will be offering bratwurst and sauerkraut, and there’ll be strawberries and cream from where else but the Super Strawberry.
The German/Austrian Club will introduce Glen Innes patrons to a Samovar Russian Tearoom, serving Russian Christmas tea and Matryoshka (nesting dolls) biscuits.
Mr Fysch promises it will all be undercover at Café zum Anbeißen, operating from 10am to 4pm on July 22.
“Nestled within our markets and surrounded by our creative store holders, it’s a great place to be in to relax, enjoy the menu and chat with other visitors,” he said.
