Glen Innes CWA (Country Women’s Assocation) was well-represented at the organisation’s 95th state conference held in Tumbi Umbi last week, with the local contingent including president Betty Strong and secretary Iris Reynolds-Willoughby (both voting delegates in the Northern Tablelands group) and handicraft officer Mary Hollingworth.

The conference theme this year was People, Purpose and Passion, and it was officially opened on Monday, May 22 by His Excellency General The Honorable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d).
The multi-talented Linda Hurley was the keynote speaker, not only inspiring the 600-odd CWA members from throughout NSW in the audience but also penning a delightful song specifically for the conference. This was followed by a heartfelt address by The Hon Bronnie Taylor MLC, Parliamentary Secretary to the Deputy Premier and Monaro MP the Hon John Barilaro MP and Mr Barilaro’s representative at the conference.
Mrs Hollingworth said both presentations re-enforced the importance of CWA to local regional and state governments, along with the amazing contribution of individual CWA members.
Glen Innes members’ successful at the recent zone handicraft judging meant several entries continued on to state conference judging.
“It was extremely exciting to see that Marie Wharton was awarded the champion piece in The Land section of the state CWA handicraft competition for a beautiful hand spun and woven vest,” Mrs Hollingworth said.
Other state entries from local crafters included a hand-knitted doll by Elaine Robinson and embellished vest by Mrs Hollingworth. The branch also had a wall-hanging created by Lillian Toovey, Gwen Parker and Mrs Hollingworth judged at the state level.
