Up against towns with a bigger population base to choose from, the Glen Innes girls were impressive, only losing to one team over the whole three days by two goals. Heading into the third and final day, Glen Innes were neck and neck with Shoalhaven to win first place.
They had to score 35 points in their final match to take out the title.
They managed 42.
“I think the main thing was how intensely they had to work for it because it was so close,” coach Maryanne Perkins said.
“On the last day they were aware of that and they totally committed to it. They jumped for rebounds, they followed their shots in, they chased loose balls and some of them were unbelievably committed on the last day. They worked so hard for it, at the end of the last game one of the girls was lying on the ground, she couldn’t move she had worked that hard.”
