The Magpies made the trip over to Moree on Sunday and were missing size up front and that was evident from the opening whistle.
“We were basically missing our two front rowers so we just lost all our punch,” coach Nick Ehsman said.
“They just belted us at the start up the middle and from there on it just made it hard for everything to come together.”
The Boars ran in 56 points to the Magpies’ 16 but it wasn’t all doom and gloom for the visitors.
The absence of regular top graders provided the opportunity for one of the club’s young players to step up.
“We had one of the junior boys make his debut, Ji van Heerwaarden, he played about 60 minutes in the centres and went really well so he might be a bit of a regular throughout the year,” Ehsman said. Glen Innes sit one place above Tingha Tigers on the Group 19 ladder but face them on their home turf.
“I think everyone is right to go so hopefully we can get a win and play some good football,” Ehsman said.
“Hopefully we can have a good day there in all grades and just build on from there and just string a couple of wins together.”
In the day’s other matches, the under 18s secured a 36-10 win while the reserve grade went down 46-10.
The ladies league tag team maintained second place on the ladder after posting a 20-14 win.

The girls started well and within 15 minutes had gone to a 10-point lead with tries to Kate Fakes and Maddi McClelland with Sasha Harrington converting one.
Both teams played good tag and Glen went into the break leading 10-4.
Soon after the start of the second half Glen went further ahead with a try to Kayla Williams. With dropped ball and a few penalties Glen lost momentum. Moree hit back with a good try.
Possession see-sawed and the Magpies made big run into Moree territory before Megan Fuller dashed in under the posts. Harrington converted to take the score to 20-10.
Just minutes out from fulltime the Boars found open space but Kayla Williams came from nowhere to take a clean tag.
The Boars scored one more try but it wasn’t enough as Glen won 20-14.
