The event, held on July 8, was also designed to celebrate and thank organisations and individuals who support the facility both financially and in other ways.

The Mayoress, Judi Toms, praised the work of the committee members and community, before touring a newly renovated cottage in Grovers Lane.

“The committee do a lot of work to keep the units in great condition,” Mrs Toms said.

“Traditionally, it’s been a very small volunteer committee over the years and they have done an amazing job with the management of money and using it wisely.”

Mrs Toms said a lot of organisations in town regularly donate.

“The morning was an opportunity to view the new cottage and for people to see what their money is used for and where it goes,” she said.

“It takes a community to raise a child, and it takes that commitment of a community to keep supporting its own community.

“This is a wonderful example of that.”

The first aged care units were completed in 1979 and the most recent in 2007.

The Recreation Room was built in 2011 and has proved to be a very useful meeting place over the last six years.
