While frustrated that a number of lots were passed in after failing to meet the minimum bid, Steve Alford said he was pleased in the end that many of those lots were later sold and he continues to receive inquiries on the remainder.
Vendors came from Tumut, Guyra, Armidale, Tamworth, Deepwater and Tenterfield in NSW with Queensland sellers coming from Bonah, Killarney, Pittsworth and Stanthorpe. Bidders travelled from Casino, Coraki, Lismore, Toowoomba and Goondiwindi as well as Tenterfield and Deepwater.
The sale grossed $100,000, with four black Simmental bulls averaging $10,125 (top of $16,000), five Simmental bulls averaging $3600 (top of $5500), six Charolais bulls averaging $3000, a Bazadais bull also selling for $3000 and nine Simmental heifers averaging $2277 (top of $5000).
While not a common breed locally, Mr Alford said the Bazadais steer meat barbecued for the vendors’ dinner ahead of the sale was very good eating. The Rescue Helicopter Support Group provided the catering, for which they will be receiving a donation.
Mr Alford was pleased to conduct what in his memory is the first stud sale at the complex, given all the work that has been done on it recently, and the setup worked well. Innes Fahey of Grafton was the auctioneer on the day.
Mr Alford said the Euro bull sale will be back next year. He feels the Euro breeds will rise in prominence over the next five years due to their impressive eye muscle statistics.
