Flying high after their 96-nil win and then a competitive effort in an away game to the top-placed MacIntyre Warriors, the Magpies were hopeful of landing a victory against another hit and miss side in the Wombats.
Glen Innes were missing their team’s leading pointscorer in Jayden Ehsman but the side’s defence leaked 46 points. Coach Nick Ehsman said they started well but let the visitors get away from them in the second term to lose 46-12.
“It was a bit unexpected, I thought we were looking pretty good and they had a few out as well,” he said.
“We played an awesome first half but I don't know what happened that second half, defence went out the window and everything we talked about at half-time didn't happen and they [Warialda] just held the ball and that's how you win games.”
The climb back to winning form doesn’t get any easier with a clash against Moree Boomerangs this Saturday.
While the Magpies are an outside chance of making the finals, Ehsman said the side hoped to upset some of the top teams in the final rounds.
“I don't think we can make the finals but I said to them at full-time we can come out and upset a couple of these bigger teams,” he said.
“Something we won't do is let down and wait until the end of the year, we will keep trying hard and keep turning up for each other.”
The Magpies’ reserve grade side snagged a 20-14 win over the visitors.
