If you’ve a yearning for a twang or a penchant for a pluck, the Glen Innes Services Club will be the place to be later in the year. The String Music Convention is being organised for November when there will be workshops led by some of the country’s best folk guitarists, fiddlers, banjo players and mandolinists.

On the Saturday night in November, the tutors will join together to perform.  David Hyams, The String Family, Târ-lin (Kez Watson and Steve Thorneycroft) and John Graham will practice as performers what they’ve been teaching.

By the way, the melancholic claw hammer is a style of banjo playing which differs from the more familiar Bluegrass style.  It’s favoured in ballads, reels and polkas in the Celtic genre of music.
