Mayor Steve Toms said the community had many buildings which added to the character of the town. “Maintenance of these buildings can be expensive and so Council in conjunction with the NSW Heritage Office is making available funds to assist in the maintenance of our older buildings”, he said.
The council’s General Manager, Hein Basson, encouraged owners of buildings in the central business district to apply because they would get priority in the allocation of money.
“Projects that may meet the guidelines for funding include the repair or reinstatement of sections of heritage buildings that have become degraded, such as verandahs, roof cladding, and the painting of these important structures”, said Mr Basson. The deadline for applications is September 22 with projects which get funding having to be completed by the end of March next year.
Application forms and guidelines are available from Council’s Department of Development, Planning and Regulatory Services at 136 Church Street by phoning 6730 2350. Copies of both documents may also be downloaded from Council’s Home page at www.gisc.nsw.gov.au.
