Tye-Ron Griffiths, 21, forced open a lock on the I block window and stole two iPods, a play station, camera, television and some bags of coins on May 29.

The next day, Griffiths broke into the B block where he stole a camera and moved to the next building.

Once inside D block, the accused stole two iPods and three cameras, where he ate some food and left behind a crumpled serviette.

Griffiths pleaded guilty to three charges of break and enter, two charges of assaulting a police officer and one charge of resisting a police officer in Armidale Local Court on Monday.

He appeared via audio visual link from Grafton Correctional Centre where he is in custody for prior matters.

APJ Law defence solicitor Emalie Hurcum told the court it was Griffiths’ first time in an adult jail.

“In relation to the break and enters he has no real explanation,” Ms Hurcum said.

“He was on bail at the time, that was extremely frustrating to him.

“He didn’t think he pushed the officer to make the assault in the first place.”

The assault on a police officer occurred February 17, when police tried to enter a house that Griffiths was in.

Armidale Local Court Magistrate Michael Holmes said Griffiths needed to change his ways.

“You need to do your time, after it you need to turn over a new leaf and not continue offending,” Mr Holmes said.

“This is the first time you have been in an adult jail and it’s not a pleasant experience.”

For both assaults on a police officer Griffiths was convicted and sentenced to 12 months jail.

For each of the break and enters he was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.

Each of the terms of imprisonment will be served concurrently, after the sentence he is now serving finishes.
