A TEENAGER will front court later this month charged with a string of offences after a crash that killed a teenage girl in the New England, last month.

Police will allege the now 19-year-old Glen Innes local was on a learner’s licence and unsupervised when he got behind the wheel of an unregistered car on August 12.
He was allegedly driving the car west on Shannon Vale Rd in Glen Innes about 10.45am when he lost control, crossed to the wrong side of the road and crashed into a tree.
A 19-year-old Glen Innes woman, who was a passenger in the car, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Glen Innes hospital but passed away a short time later.
The driver, who police said was 18 at the time of the crash, was also taken to hospital for treatment, as well as mandatory blood and urine testing.
The Northern Tablelands Crash Investigation Unit took charge of the police probe and will allege in court the driver performed a burnout, was driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle with number plates for a different vehicle.
He’s charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, learner drive unaccompanied, operate a vehicle loss of traction and operate a vehicle with misleading number plates.
Police said investigations into whether speed or alcohol were contributing factors are continuing with officers awaiting the outcome of blood and urine tests and examinations of the scene.
The man’s learner licence has been suspended. He will front Glen Innes Local Court later this month.
