Built in Russia and shipped to the New England, Ural of Oz is the only distributor of the WWII design to the nation.

General Manager Clare Mailler said her riders come from all walks of life.

“The Russian’s started making them in WWII, they copied the German BMW and set up in the Ural Mountains – where they were a bit isolated from everywhere,” Ms Mailler said. 

“They’ve kept their classic design and fitted more modern components as time has gone by.”

Whether it’s for a grey nomad trip around Australia or a seat for man’s best friend, Ms Mailler said previous owner John Taylor still offers sidecar training out at the farm.

“Sometimes their wives, or better halves, don’t like sitting on the back riding pillion so they sit in the sidecar,” she said.

“People buy it and put their dogs in the sidecar.”

Riders from across Australia will come together for the Annual Adventure Ride in October.

Starting in Glen Innes and travelling through Grafton, Ms Mailler is expecting up to 20 outfits to hit the road.

“It’s something that John created, he thought it would be great for Ural owners to get together and go for a ride in a place where there’s so many different roads, so many places to go,” she said.

“And, you can get off the beaten track.”

The Annual Adventure Ride will kick off from Glen Innes on October 6.
